Hermosa Beach Travel Guide

Stephanie Nielsen

When visiting southern California, aren't you looking for that classic surf town vibe? Don't you want to see a place that fully depicts the lifestyle of us lucky enough to call LA home? Hermosa is that place.

To me, it's my little sanctuary, a place I come to get my mind right and to soak in the rolling waves of the Pacific Ocean. Keep scrolling to get the look and to learn more about my favorite spots in the area.

When in Hermosa Beach, be sure to hang out around The Strand, the pier and boardwalk area that really is the heart of Hermosa. I love being there when there is a surf or beach volleyball contest going on. You can find out more about Hermosa and surrounging area's happenings at South Bay Events. Enjoy the day soaking in the sights and sun. The beauty of this beach is that it tends to be less crowded than it's neighboring beaches. We like to call it "The Bubble" because once you get there, you don't ever want to leave.

After enjoying the beach, peel yourself off the sand and walk up to Project Taco for a gourmet yet inexpensive lunch then grab a happy hour drink at Watermans, a place that calls themselves a safehouse for surfers. They have surf videos on the TVs, 1/2 off happy hour. Order the poke if you've never tried it before and are a sushi kind of person. Yum!

Be sure to stick around The Strand for one of the most amazing sunsets of your life. Breath in that Pacific air and really chill out. Once the sun goes down hop in an Uber and go catch some live music at Sainte Rock, a casual yet intimate venue showcasing local artists as well as big names in reggae and rock music such as Collie Buddz.

The next morning, stop by North End. This Hermosa Beach staple has been here for YEARS and has some really awesome home cookin' brunch. Be careful though, the drinks are strong and heavily flowing in this little place. I usually find myself there for much longer than intended which is why I gave it the nickname "The Vortex".

Beach, drink, relax, repeat is the name of the game here. Lay back and enjoy it. You'll understand why we love calling SoCal home. Promise.
